So Much More Than a Summer Camp

Some of the most vivid memories from my childhood come from summer camp. From pestering my parents about which summer camps they were going to sign me up for, to coming home after a day of camp and ranting about all the fun I had, going to camp made my summers so exciting. As a kid, summer camp was so exciting for me because it gave me a chance to experience things that I would never get to experience at home. Adventure. Endless play. Meeting new friends. A day without hearing the word “no.” It was freeing! What I did not realize at the time, however, was that it was so much more than just that. As a kid, I did not realize that while I was having all this fun that I was also learning essential life long skills. I never realized that while I was learning to windsurf that I was gaining confidence. I never realized that while I was waiting my turn to jump in the lake that I was gaining patience. I never realized that while I was meeting new friends that I was gaining essential people skills. So, while I was coming home and bragging to my parents about all the fun I had, I was also showing them how much I had grown in just a weeks time. Similar to the summer camp I was able to attend as a kid, the Charleston Zipline Summer Camp is so much more than just that. By leaping off the zipline tower and soaring through the trees, your child will gain courage. By climbing our six-story rockwall all the way to the top, your child will gain grit and determination. By working through our obstacle courses, your child will learn to be brave when faced with challenges. So, when they come home and brag to you about all the fun they had, you will know that it was so much more than just that.
